Japan has issued its first-ever mega earthquake warning, predicting a potential earthquake of magnitude 8-9! Thousands of people could potentially die!
Last Thursday, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in southern Japan. While there were not many casualties, the location of the quake has raised concerns. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a warning regarding the Nankai Trough because this area is prone to large earthquakes every 100-200 years, with magnitudes potentially reaching 8-9. In 1707, the second most powerful earthquake in Japan’s history occurred in this Nankai region!
However, the agency cannot specify exactly when this earthquake might happen. There is a 70-80% chance that it could occur within the next 30 years. If it does occur, it could result in the deaths of around 300,000 people and potentially cause financial damage of approximately 13 trillion dollars, according to some experts.
